The SureChill Company is delighted to announce the appointment of Nick Butler as its new Chair, effective 20 October 2020.
Nick takes on the role after Peter Saunders stepped down as Chairman after 11 years of actively supporting the growth and development of SureChill.
Peter was Executive Chairman from 2009 and, over the following 11 years was pivotal not only in developing and funding the business but acting as a crucial source of advice and support for management. Peter remains committed to SureChill as its majority shareholder.
Nick brings a wealth of experience to the role. An economist by background, he joined SureChill as a non- Executive Director in 2019. Having spent much of his earlier career in senior roles in the energy sector, most notably as BP’s Group Vice-President for Strategy and Policy Development between 2002 and 2006. Nick has also served as a Special Advisor on energy matters to the UK Prime Minister, Gordon Brown and, between 2010 and 2018 as Chair of the Cambridge Centre for Energy Studies.
Nick is currently a visiting professor at King’s College London and founding chairman of the Kings Policy Institute. In addition, he is a vice-president of the Hay on Wye Literary Festival and a member and chairman of the executive committee of the Athenaeum.
He writes regularly in the Financial Times on Energy and Power and for the Nikkei Asian Review.
Speaking of his new role, Nick said “I am very flattered to be asked to chair the SureChill board, and I look forward to helping the company fulfil its potential. We have some excellent technology which I believe can help some of the poorest people in the world.”
