General Overview

A Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineer working within the R&D project teams to take product designs from first concept to mass manufacture for a small, dynamic, company with world leading cooling technology applied to the medical, domestic and retail sectors.

Working closely with the Senior R&D Engineer and Project Lead this role will enable Sure Chill to design and manufacture innovative solutions to some of the world’s most challenging cooling problems.


Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Identify appropriate production techniques and suitable manufacturers and work with them to bring part and products in on schedule.

  • Point of contact with UK and overseas manufacturers.

  • Assisting project delivery by supporting in the creation of project plans.

  • Sign off tooling for production.

  • On hand to resolve production issues (likely to be done remotely).

  • Investigate quality issues and manage change where appropriate.

  • Ensure development parts are manufactured to required specifications and the final product meets the market needs and required quality.

  • Create well-reasoned and thorough technical reports/presentations to support engineering design and manufacturing decisions.

  • Establish technical rapport with other team members and external suppliers.

  • Business travel within UK and abroad to visit suppliers.


Skills and Competencies
  • Strong Mechanical Engineering background with an emphasis in manufacturing tooling, techniques and processes.

  • Competent using SolidWorks for creation and review of 3D and 2D designs.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Competent writing specifications, reviewing innovative mechanical design, sourcing hardware, testing and report writing and presentations (internal and external).

  • Project management skills highly desirable.

  • Demonstrable competence of delivering measurable results in a complex project environment.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills with ability to liaise across all areas of the business and with suppliers.

  • Language skills, particularly Chinese, considered advantageous.


Education and Experience
  • Successful candidates will be Degree qualified in Engineering.

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in manufacturing design transfer and new product introduction.

  • Design for manufacture experience (at mass production scale) essential.

  • Hands on mechanical design and development experience would be valuable.

  • Proven experience working with project teams to take designs from first concept through detail design and development to mass manufacture.

  • White goods design experience and/or experience or knowledge of refrigeration products would be highly desirable.

  • Quality Management Systems/Process experience highly advantageous.

  • Experience of working with cross – functional project teams to achieve objectives on complex projects and the ability to meet deadlines.
